About our programs

Global Learners

Global Learners promotes English language acquisition, builds social and emotional skills, and fosters academic success. Mentors meet with students in small groups, providing guidance and leadership in curriculum activities.

Individual mentoring provides additional social skill development for newcomers before school. Mentors meet with students one-on-one, creating relationships strengthening English skills supporting social and emotional learning.

Global Leaders

Global Leaders builds leadership, social, and academic skills necessary for high school graduation and college. Participants explore opportunities for their future and develop life skills to attain higher education and employment. Mentorship creates safe spaces to practice, improve English proficiency, and learn about American culture.

Global Leaders learn about viable career fields through university campus visits, career guest speakers and hands-on curriculum. Program meets after school through the academic year, and provides internships and summer workshops relating to students’ interests.

Global Ambassadors

A college persistence program for refugee first-year college students. This program supports refugee students in their first year of college by helping them connect with campus resources, build a supportive community of like-minded scholars, and persist through college to earn a university degree. To achieve this, Global Ambassadors focuses on two principal activities:

(1) Provide individual case management for first-year college students at participating local colleges and universities

(2) Conduct monthly cohort meetings with current freshmen and other refugee students on campus. Other refugee students, including those formerly in PAIR programs, can participate in these activities

Global Scholars

Global Scholars increases high school graduation and post-secondary education enrollment for 11th and 12th-grade refugee students. In this community-based program, mentors are paired with 11th or 12th-grade students from our partnered Houston high schools. Each mentor guides a young refugee for at least one year to help the student develop and reach their personal, social, and career potential.

Global Scholars also receive case management from PAIR staff focused on graduation milestones and skills: researching careers, applying for college, writing personal statements, completing financial aid and scholarship applications, and transitioning to college life.

Summer and Enrichment Programs

PAIR’s month-long summer program for Global Learners brings together students from all three middle school programs at one community site. Thematic activities build language, social, and academic skills to avert summer learning loss, all in a hands-on environment. Students explore the Houston community, take part in STEM projects, play games, meet new people, practice English, and develop academic and social skills.

High School summer programs extend learning opportunities beyond the academic year to encourage career exploration and college readiness, prevent summer learning loss, and promote leadership skills. Through the enrichment programs of PAIR and our partners, students gain exposure to new opportunities, build a resumé of out-of-school experiences, and develop an early network of peers, professionals, and support organizations.

PAIR is a place for people from around the world to come together to learn and share their culture.
